BVI

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is a British Overseas Territory and a major international financial centre. As well as being a leading jurisdiction for fund formation and establishment of corporate vehicles, the BVI has an internationally renowned and respected commercial court for the resolution of complex disputes.

Velitor Law has extensive BVI disputes experience, both acting as BVI qualified counsel and as the law firm coordinating local lawyers. Our experience covers a variety of BVI disputes, includes acting in contentious trusts disputes, insolvency matters and general commercial litigation. We have taken BVI cases to all levels of appeal, up to the Privy Council.

Our BVI cases include Anzen Limited v Hermes One Limited, an important arbitration decision of the Privy Council on appeal from the BVI Court of Appeal, determining the enforceability of “permissive” arbitration clauses.

Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands is a leading international financial centre and the major offshore jurisdiction for investment fund registration. The Cayman Islands are also a recognised jurisdiction for trusts, structured finance and corporate vehicle formation.

Velitor Law’s team has experience of acting in the Grand Court, the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal, and the Privy Council.

Our Cayman Islands cases include CVC v Demarco, an important decision of the Privy Council on appeal from the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal in the field of corporate insolvency, which led to the introduction of Cayman Islands minority shareholder rights into the Companies Law.

Hong Kong

Located as a gateway to the Mainland economy, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Hong Kong) is an established international business, trade and financial hub, and a platform for Mainland companies to expand globally. Hong Kong also remains the pre-eminent centre for resolving disputes across Asia.

The Velitor Law team has Hong Kong-qualified capabilities and has experience of acting in commercial disputes in the High Court, including commercial fraud, shareholder disputes, debt claims and obtaining interim relief in support of overseas proceedings.

In the BVI, the Cayman Islands and Hong Kong Velitor operates in association with AMS Law.
